Delta Delta Delta and key partners are raising the nation's consciousness about the dangers of "fat talk" and the impact it has on women's self-esteem and confidence.  Fat Talk Free Week will begin on Oct. 13, 2008 with the launch of a viral awareness video, and each remaining day will focus on a different segment of the female population, including young girls, college women, adult women, and mothers and daughters.  People will be able to sign a promise to make this week "fat talk free" and making a commitment that "friends don't let friends fat talk".   For more details on the week's nationwide events, fat talk and body image education, and the Fat Talk Free Week promise, contact Kate Lee at kate@ardellgroup.com / ph: 858-792-4963.

The program began piloting in 2005, and in October, 2008 will formally be launched by Tri Delta and Dr. Becker nationwide.  Tri Delta has committed to educating 20,000 women in the coming years with this one-of-a-kind, peer-led education program, and has seen dramatic results already in its various pilot chapters.

*  In the United States, as many as 10 million females and 1 million males are fighting a life and death battle with an eating disorder. (Crowther et al., 1992; Fairburn et al., 1993; Gordon, 1990; Hoek, 1995; Shisslak et al., 1995) - National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA)

*  91% of women recently surveyed on a college campus had attempted to control their weight through dieting

*  8 months after participating in the Tri Delta Reflections program at one school, 53% of women no longer felt strongly that their weight influenced how they felt about themselves as a person.

*  No other eating disorders prevention program has undergone such rigorous testing by independent scientists as Reflections.
